Their priest abilities are more useful, as reduces damage and deals damage upon being hit. Or in niche situations, to restore health. Wow classic shadow dmg mobs. Npc section of the dmg 2

Dec 29, 2016  Maybe I just need to re-read the NPC section of the DMG, but statting up NPCs is currently the most tedious part of 5e for me. I usually start with one of the included NPC stat-blocks, and adjust HD and proficiency as needed, but there just aren't that many sample NPCs to choose from, so it always feels a little dissatisfying. Aside from the players, everyone else in the game world is a non-player character (NPC). These characters are designed and controlled by the GM to fill every role from noble king to simple baker. While some of these characters use player classes, most rely upon simple NPC classes, allowing them to be easily generated.

  • Aug 15, 2012  The DMG, Section by Section, Part 12: Hirelings Standard Hirelings Most hirelings will be employed after a PC has reached name level and established a stronghold, as Gary envisions it.
  • Start with the Archmage from the NPC Section of the DMG. It's easiest to work from a point that is close to your objective. The Archmage is a level 18 wizard (CR of 12). This is close to what you are looking for for a baseline, though you will likely have a lot of work to do to make him a challenge for the players.
  • The 5e DMG scavenged the good bits from earlier editions. If you own them, much of the information isn't new but at least it's all in one book. If you don't, you don't need to buy them. EDIT: Many of the variant rules read like Dragon Magazine articles that added little options here and there.
  • Each Town NPC requires a suitable, vacant house. A house is a room of a certain size enclosed by a frame of blocks, with user-placed background walls, along with a valid light source, flat surface item, and comfort item (see House for full details). Houses must not be located near Corruption or Crimson, and if those biomes spread too close to an occupied house, the NPC living there may move.
  • Aug 29, 2012  The DMG, Section by Section, Part 15: Character Spells – Spell Acquisition. Gary advises that PCs buying spells from NPC Magic-Users should 'pay so dearly for spells in money, magic items, and quests that the game is hardly worth the candle.' Gary assumes that the PCs will still pay for these new spells, thereby draining the PCs of.

Glad I noted the page numbers in my original post..
Loyalty: Measures NPC loyalty on a 0-20 scale. It's similar to the henchman rules you get in B/X, BECMI, or 1e.
Injury: There is a random table (of course) with injuries a PC can sustain in various circumstances - critical hit, 0 hp, failing a save by 5+.
Morale: In various circumstances the monsters make a Wisdom save or flee/surrender. It's not very good, IMO. I'd rather use the morale from 2e or earlier editions.
